Founder / Producer / Engineer
Tyler
Ruehl
San Diego-based music producer, songwriter, mixing and mastering engineer, and founder of Blackgateco.

Building Blackgateco
Tyler Ruehl founded Blackgateco and developed it into his full-time recording and production business in 2018. His work spans songwriting, recording, editing, mixing and mastering, with a focus on modern rock, metalcore and post-hardcore.
With a background in both studio production and touring bands, Tyler Ruehl approaches records from two sides: the creative decisions that make a song connect, and the technical details that help it translate from the studio to the listener.
From the stage to the studio
Before establishing Blackgateco as his full-time work, Tyler Ruehl played guitar in Southern California bands including Lion I Am and Noble. Those years included regional performances, touring and writing and production work alongside other musicians in the heavy music scene.
Tyler Ruehl later developed GHOST!INTHEWALL, taking an idea from a side project into a working band with recorded releases, music videos, merchandise and live shows. The experience strengthened his perspective on what it takes to make music and build an audience as an independent artist.
Selected production work
Tyler Ruehl’s studio work includes producing, mixing and mastering music for White Harbor, along with work involving Noble, Beyond All Hope, GHOST!INTHEWALL, Blind Path and other independent artists. His roles differ by release and can include songwriting, instrumental recording, editing and final mixes and masters.
His broader professional background also includes guitar engineering work alongside Don Vedda for As I Lay Dying recording sessions, as well as live technical support during international touring.
Writing with Gino
Tyler Ruehl and Gino Sgambelluri began writing together as longtime friends, without deadlines or a client brief. Their creative partnership at Blackgateco grew from those sessions.
Together they develop ideas from riffs, rhythms, melodies and production concepts into full arrangements. They work with artists to establish creative direction early, then adapt their involvement to the needs of each project, from hands-on co-writing to finishing a record that already has a clear identity.
