Hello people of the black gate of mordor, my name is bobby, I am one of the hosts of a podcast called General Nerd Cast. We dont really talk about music all that often, we mostly focus on the nerdy stuff. I know this is more of a music website but ive known conner and tyler for a couple of years now and they told me to post some shit. So here i am posting some shit. I started podcasting a few years back with some friends and we did some awesome things, we went to E3, we met some people that are pretty big in the gaming industry, met a few developers etc. But it didnt really pan out like we all hoped so we quit doing that. Fast forward to now and i have a new team and a new direction and i can honestly say podcasting has been a lot fun. We have 44 episode out on all major podcasting platforms(45 will be out friday 7/7) and we have over 10 videos on youtube. I love podcasting because it lets me talk about the things im passionate about and the things i love. Plus i get to bullshit with my friends about nerdy shit and thats awesome. Thats it for a quick introduction, i guess i started this post to see what other people like about podcasts and podcasting? I guess it would also be cool to learn about the equipment everybody uses and the programs you use for editing? How do you get the word out about your podcast or a podcast you listen to that you like? What are things you look for in a podcast? How often do you listen to podcasts? Let's talk about podcasts.

Its important to stick with what your core foundation is, but don't ever stop expanding. Try new things, create new shows, don't stop creating and doing what you love. As soon as you settle with where you are, that's when you get stuck. Never be satisfied always push to achieve more and do more.
i totally agree with just starting with what you have and not needing the best and most expensive gear out there. Do you find it important to stick with your niche ? Or do you eventually want to expand and create sub topics that also interest you ?
The biggest step to get into podcasting is kind of like the biggest step in anything you have a passion for, you just have to do it. You have to understand that the podcast you're doing is more for you then anything else. Sure it's great when people listen and love what you're saying but ultimately you're talking about what you like and just sharing your opinion. Pick a topic you love and just start doing it. It won't be perfect when you start, but just keep recording and keep doing what you do and eventually it will start to become easier, it will be more natural, and that's when you will really start to love what you're doing. The 2 hardest things about podcasting are 1 commiting to a schedule. People want stability, and they don't want to guess when your releasing another episode. So pick a day to release it and stick with it. Maybe record 5 episodes to start so you don't fall behind and just stay with the same schedule. 2 nobody likes the sound of their own voice to start and it's terrible when you start having to listen to it all the time. Don't let that deter you because we all sound like idiots and you will get used to your voice. And after you're used to it, you'll still hate it lol. But don't worry it's not as bad as you think.
We still use the same equipment, we use a blue yeti mic and I use an old version of adobe audition for editing. That's the thing we will be upgrading next is the sound quality. But as with most things we all love doing it's expensive. Don't let the cost deter you either. You can start out with something small and move up. A lot of podcasters started with just using their phone to record and get started then save up and upgrade.
Podcasting is about having fun talking about things you love. It's fun don't forget that.
Awesome insight on what you do!
What was the biggest step for you to just jump into hosting your own podcast? Do you have the same gear you started with? If not, what did you start with and advance too?
Currently using a 2i2 interface with sm7b and a mxl4000 when we have guests!
Reaper would be my main editing tool, ill be diving into video editing soon!
Cheers-
